"Some developments are still under review or waiting to break ground, while others, like The Emery on Middlesex Street, expect a fall opening.
Heritage Properties, a locally owned and operated real estate investment, development and management firm, broke ground on the vacant lot at Middlesex and Pearl streets last year, site of a former community garden and herbal farm.
The $10 million project features 37 market-rate apartments across five floors — 23 studios, 10 one-bedrooms and four two-bedrooms.
The project draws its name from Lowell’s Mill City roots. An emery is a steel roller in a loom which aids in gripping the fabric.
“The Emery references Lowell’s identity as the ‘Spindle City,’ with a legacy of textile manufacturing,” Heritage Properties said an email earlier this month."
