The ABCs of Heritage Properties

We put people first. For nearly 50 years, we’ve been working to put people first whenever we engage with those we serve— whether it’s our residents, employees, community partners, investors, or vendors.
But how can we, as an organization, continually improve upon this mission, and ensure that everyone across our team is striving towards this same clear goal, day in, day out?
Earlier this spring, we organized a workshop for our senior leadership team. We gathered as a group to discuss and identify our core values as an organization. We were encouraged to think of these core values as being our operating principles—the rules or guidelines we agree to, that shape and inform our day-to-day decisions and actions. Led by Andy Youniss, a friend of Heritage Properties and founder of Rocket Software, we drilled down to the very essence of what drives us as a team. Keeping it simple and straightforward, we aligned our core values around the “ABCs” of Heritage Properties, leaning into three key statements that shape our operations and how we aim to show up for our community every day.
First up, we looked at how we operate as a team. We believe no task is too small for any team member. We step in and support each other.
Any of Us, Any Time, for Any Thing
We support and foster a culture of empathy and teamwork.
· We value people over titles.
· We find solutions together, through our shared expertise.
· We lead with empathy and act with understanding.
Then we got back to basics. We focus on doing the seemingly “small” tasks right, consistently, because that’s what builds trust.

We believe that long-term success builds from the smallest details.
· We show up on time.
· We are present and fully engaged.
· We honor our commitments thoroughly and with integrity.
Last but not least, we solidified our main goal. Whether for our residents or our colleagues, we are always looking for new ways to excel and go beyond.

These core values were rolled out across the team in June (along with some fun new company swag!), and we’ve been enjoying making sure our actions align with these operating principles. It’s the everyday actions, led by empathy, organization, and commitment, that make our work so enjoyable here at Heritage Properties.
