A Lowell native and former professional boxer who competed from 1985-2003, Micky Ward was portrayed by Mark Wahlberg in the 2010 Academy award-winning film The Fighter. Based on the true events and family story of Ward and his half-brother, Dicky Eklund (played by Christian Bale), The Fighter was set in Lowell and features scenes filmed at the original Ramalho’s Gym where real-life Ward and Eklund trained and fought. As an ode to the building’s storied past and its Hollywood history, Waterhead showcases a handful of memorabilia from Ramalho’s and our on-site media room even includes an official movie poster of The Fighter!
